Beauty is Beyond a Size

Written by: Jenny Anne
A true fashionista who has traveled the world developing her fashion talents with fashion heavy hitters and is now in Nashville, TN.

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Seventh - Annual "Fashion for EveryBODY" fashion show.  It took place in the Commodore Ballroom in the student life center at Vanderbilt University. Co-created by Liz Llewellyn and Mindy Lawrence, all to raise awareness for the non for profit group Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee also known as EDCT.

Unfortunately, in this type of industry, the pressure to be thin and have a certain look is a lot of pressure on some.  It was stated that more than 10 million people - 1 million of whom are male, suffer from eating disorders in America. This evening was a celebration of people in fashion of all shapes and sizes. Overall, the energy in the room was great and the show represented that excitement.

I loved this event because it really showed that true beauty is really far beyond the surface. The models were of all ages and sizes. Their clothing was mostly from local boutiques such as Ivey, Emmaline, and Blush Boutique to name only a few. I will say that the men and women on the runway definitely were confident and having fun.

The show was produced by New York fashion expert and now local Nashville talent, Milton White. The lighting and staging were excellent. I even loved the screen above the runway showing which boutique/designer was being shown. On occasion, during shows they mix up the clothes and I always like to know who I am looking at.  This was done very well this evening.

With only four local designers being shown, D'Michelle, D. Marlene Jewelry (Can be seen in the video below), Gent Menswear, and our very own Charles Lord....I was craving more!  Charles's amazing fall colors and use of vintage fur detailing was enough for me to want to pull out my pocket book and start shopping.  A bit of diversity and surprise is what I always love in a great show!

Throughout the night there were silent auctions, as well as live auctions with guitars signed by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw as well as one by Alan Jackson that brought lots of excitement into the air.

Some of the fabulous sponsors who helped make the show possible included Nashville Scene, Her, The Cosmetic Market, EYECANDY and my own, lia sophia jewelry.

With all of the incredible participation, it really showed that Nashville was all about making a difference in supporting this great cause.  I was glad to be a part of it and was thrilled that the event was such a success.

From stars on the lux Red Carpet, to even our own Alicia Boswell on the runway looking stunning in some really sophisticated looks, everyone was dressed to impress. Yet as co creator, Liz Llewellyn, stated...."It was a night of having fun without being overly serious." The best part was that-it was exactly that and it was still done while looking and feeling our best.

No matter what size we wear, it was a night of being confident in who we are and feeling good about it. I'd love to see more shows out there like this on a regular basis. Thanks again for the amazing job!
