Assistant Editor

Kris, born and raised in Nashville, has had an interest in fashion for as long as she can remember. From coordinating each day's outfit of her pre-school class to becoming a Fashion Merchandising major at Lipscomb University, she's always wanted to be in the field. As an aspiring wardrobe stylist, she is passionate about raising Nashville's interest and participation in fashion. Although young, she has strong ambition and hunger for more knowledge and experience in the world of fashion. As it varies often, she describes her style as loud, dark, sleek, funky, business, monochromatic, and vintage with a close relationship with the future. Her inspirational figures, as well, change from day to day, but especially loves the work of stylist Cherry Gun and photographer Kesh. Her favorite designers include Thakoon, Jason Wu, Roberto Cavalli, Zac Posen, and most recently Kanye West. She hopes to greatly serve Nashville Fashion Events by using her advantage as a local to reach out to Nashville's best fashion spots and boutiques.

Our latest Style Profile lead us to Hemline, located in the Hill Center of Green Hills. Since its opening in 2007, Hemline has been giving shoppers the best of both worlds; the shopping experience of a small boutique with the big names of a chain. Not only can you find the a BCBG skirt and Free People blouse, but a Leona dress by a local designer. That’s right. Hemline offers local designs too. The store’s eclectic mix of designers and brands leaves very little left to be desired.  We all know how difficult updating a wardrobe can be, so I wanted to create a look that was perfect for this pre-Fall season but comfortable too. I thought these cropped diamond printed pants were great for the season and were super cozy. They were such a good fit, it was actually hard to find... read more

Fanny’s House of Music might be one of Nashville’s most unique music boutiques, and by far the most charming. Nestled in East Nashville, the store is home to an array of new and vintage instruments  and, just as notably, the friendliest staff you’ll ever meet. But what really makes Fanny’s an absolute rarity is it’s in house selection of vintage clothing. Featuring finds from vintage clothing dealers; 2 of which are featured here- Anna Haferman's "The Mom and Pop Culture Shop" and Lynda Herdelin's "Pink Star Vintage." The boutique has some of the most rare and eye-catching finds I’ve ever seen. Despite the amount of limited space, there is still so much to be discovered on every rack. Working at American Apparel has definitely turned ... read more

With locations in both Franklin and Nashville, Muse boutique has made quite a name for itself. I took a visit to the Nashville West End location and got to create looks using some of my favorite items I could find. Muse is known for having some of the most in-style clothing and accessories for prices that won't break the bank. Their floors are filled with the hottest dresses, pants, blouses, shoes, and bags with brands you won’t find in the mall. No matter your preference, it's hard to find at least one thing you won’t like at Muse.  This floral shift dress was by far my favorite in the store. Our model, Logan, even bought it after the shoot. It was fun, flirty, and trendy, much like Muse itself. I most admired the print and comfortable fit. Not only that, but it has the... read more

Last week, I finally took my first visit to Hip Zipper. The store had always been on my radar, so when I finally got the grand opportunity to work with their clothes, I couldn’t help but be distracted by an appetite to fill my closet. I was immediately taken aback by how many items actually filled the store. I saw vintage shoes, bags, pants, outerwear, and even swimsuits before making it all the way through. Styling vintage can be a challenge, but Hip Zipper’s selection made it worthwhile.  This was by far my favorite look. I first stumbled upon this long, black ranch style skirt. The short fringes at the hem completely sold me. I was determined to challenge the skirt’s distinct style, by finding a top sharing as little parallels with it as I could. What’s... read more

July 21st gave way to another successful night for RAW Nashville with their MIXOLOGY showcase. Originated in Los Angeles, RAW has been supporting and showcasing local artists of all kind, featuring the work of local fashion designer, artists, photographers, musicians, and performers. Last weekend's MIXOLOGY featured designers were Kat Seaton, Shannon Talbott, Take Flight Crafties, and Julie Ann Mirse. Now a senior at O'more school of design, Kat Seaton shows off her skill. Given her creations thus far, you can sense Kat's affinity for 1950's women's wear and that she has her classic A-line dresss down pat. My favorite look was this floral print skirt and blouse. I really like how she brought such a retro design to life with her use of color and eye catching patterns. Sara Gideon and T... read more

If you’re living in Nashville and call yourself a style enthusiast, I’m pretty certain you’ve heard of Local Honey. For the young, fashionable, statement makers of Nashville, Local Honey is much like an Oasis, fittingly located around the corner from Hillsboro Village, right next to Bongo Java. Although Nashville has become no stranger to the world of fashion and style, there still aren’t many locations that seem to cater its audience like Local Honey. Promoting the work of the city’s most innovative designers, the boutique is at the forefront of what’s to become. There are a multitude of local designers whose creations have been featured and sold at Local Honey, showcasing original, reconstructed, and vintage pieces all under one roof. Chaseash, R... read more

Watched all the Big 4’s Spring and Summer runway shows? Drooling over your favorite designer’s latest collection? Wishing you could own what that high fashion model is walking in? Look no further than to local designers to rock your favorite Fashion Week looks. Red carpet bloggers everywhere fell in love with this sheer, floor length Ellie Saab dress worn by Rihanna (right). The structure and red embroidered mesh of this dress reminded me of another piece by an O’More College of Design student, Lauren Zwanziger (left). Both designs possess the same sultry and romantic feel emphasized by floral patterns in shades of red. Sheer evening gowns have become quite the trend and can often be a hit or miss. However, both designs executed the idea notably better than many. Sin... read more

Speaking with many tourists who spend time in my place of work in downtown Nashville, I’ve noticed that many of them are a little shocked by the dress of local Nashvillians. They seemed to expect the whole city to be a mirror of lower Broadway and were disappointed that they had already bought expensive cowboy hats and boots...but pleasantly surprised nonetheless. Working at a popular retail store, I get to see plenty of Nashville’s most stylish fashionistas come and go as well. Despite recent claims of our city being among the worst dressed, we have plenty of well-dressed fashion lovers. As I observe their purchases and which items draw the most attention, I realized that Nashville is pretty trendy. Although to many style enthusiasts, it’s not quite clear whether &lsq... read more

Although the presence of local fashion designers is becoming more apparent than ever in Nashville, there are still so many hidden treasures. You don’t have to travel very far to find a couture gown or handmade piece. Designers all over Nashville and Middle Tennessee are emerging to take their place on the the scene. As our city is diverse, so are the designers.   (Photography by Gregory Byerline) Nashville native and couture designer Charles Brown is president and head designer of his house, Charles Lord, and has been around since 2005. Charles applies his own imagination and cultural influences to a vintage Parisian frame. His designs are more than eye catching; each piece is nearly capable of its own persona.  (Photography by Gregory Byerline) Charles is commi... read more
