Think you have what it takes to be Nashville’s next up and coming fashion designer? If so, the reward will be big! The Belcourt Theatre just announced they will be holding a design competition to find Nashville’s next promising designer.

The challenge?

Competitors will design one full look inspired by the truly Americana “road movie” (think “Fear and Loathing” or “Easy Rider”). The winner will go on to create 10 complete looks that will be featured along side visiting national designers at the nD Festival fashion show at the Belcourt Theatre in the fall of 2011. A stipend will go toward production of the collection and other prizes will be awarded such as mentoring sessions with nationally known designers Carrie and Matt Eddmenson and Natalie Chanin of Alabama Chanin. Additionally, a Nashville independent filmmaker will incorporate the nD Emerging Designer’s winning looks into a short film that will screen during the nD Festival fashion show.

Among an expert panel of judges will be Laura Brown of Harper’s Bazaar magazine and the local favorite Imogene+Willie. Imogene+Willie were the featured designers in last years nD festival fashion show.

Be sure to check back to www.belcourt.org next week on January 28th for full details, instructions and the complete application process.

The nD festival is a fundraising event for The Belcourt Theatre. Co-chairs for the event are Holly Bryant and Libby Callaway. Last year the highly attended festival raised $30,000+ for the Nashville theatre, which provided new seating. The Belcourt is Nashville’s last historic neighborhood theatre. It is a nonprofit organization that is renowned for showcasing the best of independent, documentary, and world cinema films and has been a sounding board for independent voices in theatre and music.
